Over 40 Years of Experience
CEI’s President, David Clark, has deep roots in the HVAC industry. Today, he continues to lead the company forward with innovative ideas and strong, clear direction. Under his leadership, CEI has experienced rapid growth and earned countless referrals that have made CEI the most trusted HVAC and energy efficiency experts in the Hilton Head region.
A certified professional, David maintains licensure for HVAC contracting in Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina as well as certification for automotive mechanics, industrial maintenance, heat pump trades, welding, and nuclear trades.
Before launching CEI, David served as the General Manager of McNutt Service’s Greenville and Hilton Head branches, and well as the Project Manager/Solar Builder for Vanir Energy. As General Manager for AirPro Cooling and Heating, he stepped in to manage the day-to-day operations of a HVAC company with $1.5M in annual sales. His leadership helped bring new life to hiring processes, safety trainings, sales, and the company’s financials.
From 2005-2008, David worked as the President & Owner of Appalachian Energy. During his tenure, he managed and oversaw the purchase of a 1M square foot facility that was transformed into a commercial business park.
During that time, he also helped launch a successful solar company that quickly reached over $1M in sales within the first 12 months. He oversaw and directed the commercial sales and hiring processes for the organization and was integral to the success and growth the organization saw in year one.
When the opportunity arose for David to work alongside his son, Matthew, the two experts forged ahead to co-found CEI as a family owned and operated business. Together, the team has built a trusted name within the HVAC industry and has helped countless companies and individuals find the ideal HVAC solution.
As the Vice President of Operations, Matthew oversees partnerships and ensures that each client receives the attention it deserves. Maintaining CEI’s dedication to affordable, high-quality service, he has the pleasure of managing the relationships CEI has with clients in a variety of industries.
Matthew’s career within the industry began in 2006, when he took charge of Cell Air’s HVAC needs. During his time there, he managed large-scale HVAC operations for the cell industry’s major players, such as Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T.
He later moved on to work with Appalachian Energy as the Field Project Manager where he oversaw all residential and commercial installations for solar PV & thermal projects. Thanks to his leadership, the staff transition during the acquisition of Appalachian Energy by Vanir Energy, a Vanir Group of Companies Subsidiary, was completely seamless. Other accomplishments included leading construction of the world’s largest solar heating and cooling plant in 2008 in Fletcher, NC and the management of more than 50 residential solar thermal installations over two years.
Post-Vanir acquisition, Matthew served in a dual role as both Director of Project Management and VP of Sales & Development. During his tenure, he was responsible for more than $8M in sales in less than 12 months through meaningful partnerships with YMCAs, hotels, and commercial facilities. He also was the lead on the installation of a $1M solar thermal chiller installation at a US military base in Paris Island, SC, which provided 90 tons of solar cooling capacity.
With his extensive professional background in HVAC and green energy solutions, Matthew Clark joined his father to co-found CEI in 2011. As the Head of Sales and Project Development, he worked with SolTherm Energy and generated $2M in revenue in less than 18 months and also led a team in the development of solar thermal energy systems at more than 23 locations throughout Virginia and North Carolina.
After a short stint consulting with ServiceLogic, the largest privately held HVAC firm, Matthew returned his focus to the family business at CEI. Today, he and his family reside in Ridgeland, South Carolina.
